When I told my friend that we were going to Toyama, she said, "there isn't much in Toyama". She is from Toyama City, and she was right.
Compared to all places we visited during this trip, The city of Toyama was pretty empty. We walked around the city centre after having dinner, and we were only to discover that all shops were already shut. It was on Friday night, and it wasn't even late. We then walked into Toyama Glass Museum which had a stunning building and we saw some lovely work, but again we were the only customers there.
Toyama wasn't a bad place though. Food was good, and people seemed bit more relaxed. We went on a canal cruise, and we saw many locals just enjoying being outside at a park along the canal. We saw some kids skateboarding on a main street, and they had the whole street to themselves. Imagine to do that in Tokyo.
The day we left Toyama to Tokyo, we had a wonderful view of the Japan Alps from the train, and I thought, may be people of Toyama don't need anything else.
